LISBON, N.D. – The Aberdeen Smittys started off their season with a bang on Wednesday night. The squad scored eight runs in the first two innings on the way to an 11-6 win over Lisbon in American Legion baseball action. The second game was halted in the fifth inning because of weather with Lisbon owning a 4-3 lead.

The Smittys scored three two-out runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the victory. Phillip Zens delivered a two-run single. Another run scored on a wild pitch.

After the hosts tied the score in the bottom half of the frame, Aberdeen scored five runs in the top of the second to take control. Grant Beyer and Casey Vining each drove in a pair to highlight the inning.

Aberdeen’s next two runs scored on wild pitches as three Lisbon hurlers combined to throw five wild pitches in addition to walking 13 batters.

The Smittys’ last two runs came on a run-scoring single by Zens, and an RBI triple by Jaxon Ladner.

Cooper Eisenbeisz struck out six batters, before Zens came on in relief and fanned seven more.

Zens finished with two hits and drove in three, while Vining also had a pair of hits and plated two.

Grant Beyer tripled to start the second game and scored on a wild pitch. He also had an RBI single in the second inning. Zane Backous doubled to lead off the second inning and scored on a single by Vining.

The same two teams will meet again on Sunday at Fossum Field in Aberdeen. First pitch is set for noon.
