OMAHA, Neb. – Groton fell to squads from Nevada and Minnesota during the first day of an American Legion baseball tournament in Omaha on Monday. Groton lost to Reno 12-2 before falling to Minneapolis Northside 5-3.

The Reno A’s scored in each of the first four innings on the way to an 8-0 lead over Groton and tacked on four more in the sixth. Groton plated solo runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings.

Brevin Fliehs and Dillon Abeln accounted for the Groton offense with each collected two of the team’s four hits. Fliehs and Abeln had back-to-back singles in the fourth when Groton eventually scored a run on a ground out. Fliehs singled in the sixth and scored on Abeln’s double.

Groton scored three times in the top of the first inning against Minneapolis. Colby Dunker highlighted the frame with a two-run home run.

However, Groton was blanked the rest of the way and Twin Cities squad scored once in the fourth and four times in the fifth to surge ahead.

Abeln struck out six batters and did not walk a single batter in six innings on the mound.

Groton is back in action with another game today.
