Groton falls to Wisconsin squad at Omaha tourney

OMAHA, Neb. – Groton scored first, but its opponent responded in a big way Tuesday during American Legion baseball action at a tournament in Omaha. Groton fell to Chippewa Falls, Wis. 13-3 during the second day of the tourney.

Groton opened the scoring when Dillon Abeln came home on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning. However, the area squad left runners and second and third base.

Chippewa Falls answered with nine runs in the bottom of the first frame. The Wisconsin club had five hits, including three doubles, to go along with six walks during the uprising.

Groton scored a pair of runs in the third inning. Bradin Althoff led off with a double and later scored on a passed ball. Ryan Groeblinghoff scored on a ground out.

Groton also had runners in scoring position in the second and fourth innings, but failed to cash in.

Groton will play again today during the tournament.
