GROTON – Groton took a four-run lead into the seventh inning and then held off a late rally to grab a 4-3 win over Redfield in American Legion baseball action Tuesday.

Dillon Abeln, who struck out a dozen batters, retired 13 batters in a row at one stage. He was able to work out of a jam in the top of the seventh. After Redfield scored three runs, the visitors had a runner thrown out trying to steal third base for the final out of the contest.

Groton scored three runs in the third inning and then added what proved to be an important insurance run in the fourth. The hosts received hits from seven different players, including an RBI single by Colby Dunker.

Noah Johnson had two hits for Redfield, which cut into the deficit with back-to-back RBI doubles by Kevin Weller and Elijah Morrissette in the seventh.
