Dairy Queen edges Northville Merchants in 10 innings

NORTHVILLE – Redfield Dairy Queen remained unbeaten with a 7-4 10-inning win over the Northville Merchants in Amateur baseball action on Sunday night.

Redfield broke a 4-4 tie on a fielder’s choice in the top of the 10th before Bennett Osborn drove in an insurance run with a single. Dairy Queen scored its final run on an error. Northville had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the frame.

The Merchants opened the scoring when Niko Pezonella drove in a run with a hit in the bottom of the first inning. Redfield tied the score in the third on Camden Osborn’s sacrifice fly.

Northville regained the lead in the fourth on a passed ball, before Dairy Queen took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. The Merchants again jumped in front in the bottom of the fifth on bases-loaded walks from Max Waltman and Carson Simes.

Osborn tied the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth setting the stage for the extra inning.

Redfield, which improved to 7-0 on the season, stole 15 bases throughout the contest.

Pezonella, who threw 188 pitches, struck out 12 batters in the complete-game pitching performance.
