SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Smittys ran their winning streak to six games, and their offense to 82 runs over that stretch with a doubleheader sweep over Sioux Falls East in American Legion baseball on Monday. The Smittys won the first game 16-2 and the nightcap 13-1.

“The boys played great,” said Aberdeen coach Nathan Gonnelly. “Our offense really showed up tonight. Multiple base hits, a handful of doubles and triples, and even a home run by Cooper Eisenbeisz.”

The Smittys scored at least three runs in seven different innings of the doubleheader.

It all started with a four-run first inning in the opener. All of the runs were scored with two outs, setting a tone for the contest as Aberdeen scored nine two-out runs in all. Talan Dutenhoeffer had a two-run single in the frame.

Eisenbeisz hit a solo home run in the second, before the Smittys added four more runs in the third. Aberdeen scored three times in the fourth on RBI hits from Drew Salfrank, Eisenbeisz and Lance Siefken, and the capped it off with four runs in the fifth as Salfrank drove in a pair with a double.

Eisenbeisz finished with four RBI, while Salfrank drove in three.

It was more of the same in the second game as Aberdeen exploded for six runs in the top of the first.

Brendan Livermont, Dutenhoeffer, Charlie Phillips and Salfrank each drove in runs.

After scoring three more in the second inning, the Smittys plated four runs in the fifth as Casey Vining, Grant Beyer, Jaxon Ladner, and Donnie Soderlund each knocked in runs.

Meanwhile a quartet of Aberdeen pitchers shut down Sioux Falls and the Smittys played error-free in the field.

“Our pitchers did their job and our defense backed them up,” Gonnelly said. “Overall, outstanding team effort.”

The Smittys are scheduled to host Renner this afternoon in a doubleheader at Fossum Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
