RAPID CITY – The Aberdeen Swim Club capped off their outdoor season with a big showing at the South Dakota State A Long Course Meet in Rapid City this past weekend.

The Stingsrays finished third in team points, had five individual state champions, and also were the recipients of the Spirit Award.

“It was very successful,” said assistant coach Lisa Jorgenson. “The kids fought hard for every point. We raced well.”

State champions included Evelyn Brudvig in the Girls 8 and Under 50 meter backstroke; Ginny Peterson in the Girls 9-10 400 freestyle with a new state meet record; Lula Karst in the Girls 13-14 1,500 freestyle, 400 individual medley, 200 breaststroke, and 100 breaststroke; Easton Ketterling in the Boys 200 individual medley, and the 200 backstroke; and Ryan Schmidt in the Boys 13-14 100 butterfly, and 50 freestyle.

Aberdeen Swim Club age group high point winners in the top five included: Brudvig, who was fourth in the 8 and Under girls; Briggs North, who was fifth in the 8 and Under boys; Karst, who was fifth in the 13-14 girls; Schmidt, who was third in the 13-14 boys; and Ketterling, who was fourth in the 13-14 boys.

Jorgenson noted that the Stingrays had many personal records during the meet.

“Every single team member contributed to our points, whether individually or on relay teams,” Jorgenson said. “That’s really something to be proud of. It was a really great meet.”

Final team points were Sioux Falls Swim Team 7,033.5, Watertown Area Swim Club 4,288.5, Aberdeen Swim Club 2,498, Rushmore Swim Team 2,480, and Brookings Swim Club 1,605.

ASC will now have a group that will be competing in the Central Zones Championship next week in Fargo, N.D., spearheaded by Schmidt who had a AAA National Motivational time standard earlier this summer.
