GROTON – Groton overcame an early six-run deficit, lost a late lead, and then scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Clark 10-9 in American Legion baseball action Thursday night.
Colby Dunker, who already had a pair of walk-off hits to his credit this spring and summer, added to his resume with a two-out, two-run single to give Groton the victory.
Clark controlled the game early, bolting out to a 6-0 lead as Collin Gaikowski had a two-run single, and Will Hovde produced a bases-loaded double.
Groton responded with eight unanswered runs. Brevin Fliehs had an RBI single in the third, and then delivered a bases-loaded double in a five-run fifth inning. Bradin Althoff also had an RBI double in the frame.
Clark came through with three runs in the top of the seventh. The visitors scored a pair of two-out runs to take the lead setting the stage for the bottom half of the frame. With two outs and two on, Althoff received an intentional walk to load the bases before Dunker once again came through in the clutch.
Teylor Diegel, Fliehs, and Althoff each had two hits for Groton. Fliehs drove in four runs, while Althoff and Dunker each plated two.
Hovde finished with three RBI for Clark, and Gaikowski had two RBI.
