CLARK – Groton had its offense out in full force to open the Region 6B American Legion baseball tournament on Tuesday. Groton rolled to a 25-2 win over Mobridge, and then set the tone early in a 9-2 win over Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern.

Groton scored at least three runs in each of the five innings in the win over Mobridge. Colby Dunker and Braxton Imrie drove in runs in the first, Imrie and Teylor Diegel each had two-run doubles in the second, and Ryan Groeblinghoff, Korbin Kucker, Dillon Abeln and Brevin Fliehs each drove in a run, and Bradin Althoff had a two-run triple in the third. Cole Simon and Imrie both plated runs in the fifth.

Althoff and Imrie each drove in four runs in the victory. Diegel, Abeln and Dunker each contributed a pair of RBI. Mack Saxon had a two-run home run to account for Mobridge’s runs.

Groton scored three runs in both the first and second innings in its victory over W-I-N. Althoff continued his standout day, connecting for a two-run triple in the first, and adding an RBI double in the second. Groeblinghoff also drove in a run in the first.

Althoff and Gavin Englund both plated runs in the fourth as Groton built an eight-run advantage.

W-I-N scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, both runs coming in on errors.

Althoff finished with three hits and four RBI for Groton, which defeated W-I-N for the fourth time this season. Fliehs and Dunker each contributed two hits. Groton will take on Faulkton-Highmore in winner’s bracket action tonight.

Devon Fischbach and Dawson Ward each had two hits to pace Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern, which will meet Claremont in a loser’s bracket contest this afternoon.
