Smittys conclude Gopher Classic with victory

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Aberdeen Smittys built two different four-run leads and claimed a 12-6 American Legion baseball win over Waconia during the Gopher Classic on Sunday night. The Smittys started the game with a bang as Drew Salfrank tripled, Waconia had an error, Cooper Eisenbeisz singled and Casey Vining pounded a three-run home run for a 4-0 lead before an out was recorded. After Waconia tied the game, Aberdeen scored four two-out runs in the fourth inning. Eisenbeisz and Phillip Zens each had RBI hits, and Joran Foss added a two-run double. After a run in the fifth, Aberdeen capped the scoring with three more runs in the seventh on a ground out, an RBI double from Eisenbeisz, and a sacrifice fly from Vining. Eisenbeisz, Zens, Vining, Foss and Jaxon Ladner each had two hits for the Smittys, who finished with 13 as a team. Vining finished with four RBI, Eisenbeisz contributed three and Foss had two, while Eisenbeisz scored three times. Aberdeen will have its final
