Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern wins twice in Region 6B

CLARK – Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern kept its season alive with back-to-back victories during Region 6B American Legion baseball action on Thursday. W-I-N edged Faulkton-Highmore 4-3 and defeated Clark-Willow Lake 7-5 in elimination games.

Ashton Remily’s lead-off home run in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the win over Faulkton-Highmore. The Hitmen had the tying run on third base in the bottom of the seventh before a ground out ended the game.

Remily had an RBI single to start the scoring in the top of the first inning. W-I-N added two more runs in the second on a ground out and a wild pitch. Faulkton-Highmore tied the contest with three runs in the fourth on a wild pitch, a run-producing single by Gus Kopecky, and a bases-loaded walk by Carson Stephenson.

Noah Bakeburg did not allow a hit in 3 2/3 innings of relief.

W-I-N will face Groton in the championship game at 5 tonight. If Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern wins and a second title game is needed, it will be immediately following.

Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 7, Clark-Willow Lake 5

Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern bounced back from a four-run deficit to eliminate Clark-Willow Lake.

W-I-N scored five times in the third inning as Quintin Fischbach and Sam Vetter each had run-scoring singles, before Levi Little had a two-run single.

After Clark-Willow Lake tied the game on an error in the top of the fourth, Chays Mansfield and Vetter had RBI singles in the bottom of the frame to put W-I-N in front for good.

Ky Vandersnick, who had a two-run triple in the first, topped C-WL with three runs batted in. Jakob Steen, who had an RBI double in the third, finished with two hits.

Quintin Fischbach had three hits for W-I-N, while Devon Fischbach and Vetter each contributed two.

REGION 1B

Milbank won twice in elimination games to move into tonight’s championship contest against Big Stone City.

Milbank scored eight runs in the sixth inning to turn back Castlewood 11-3. It had five straight run-producing singles in the frame.

Joe Schulte had an RBI double and an RBI single in the pivotal inning. Milbank also received RBI singles from Reese Rabe, Josh Pederson, Mason Meister, Dillen Scheeley.

Riggs Prouty and Jyler Tharaldsen each drove in runs as Castlewood took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Milbank responded with a two-run single by Pederson and bases-loaded walk by Schulte in the second.

Schulte had two hits, drove in three runs, and struck out 10 batters in going the distance on the mound.

Milbank 9, Sisseton 1

Milbank gained a measure of revenge in a 9-1 win over Sisseton, after Sisseton had scored a walk-off extra-inning win on Wednesday.

Milbank scored seven times in the second inning to take control. Milbank scored five runs on bases-loaded walks to fuel the frame. Joe Schulte and Tanner Hallquist also had RBI hits.

Josh Pederson went the distance. He struck out four, did not allow a walk, and gave up just one run.

Big Stone City rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Castlewood.

Kaden Nedved’s two-run single had put Castlewood in front in the first inning. Ted Smith stole home in the third, and Watson Grantham drove in a run in the sixth for the Warriors.
