DELL RAPIDS – The Aberdeen Roncalli golf squad had a memorable day at the Dell Rapids Invitational on Monday. The Cavaliers, competing against some of the state’s elite Class A competition, finished in third place with a team score of 302.

“That was my lowest team score since I have been coaching,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy, who has coached the Cavaliers boys’ team for 10 years.

Vermillion and Dakota Valley both finished with team scores of 293. Logan Collette was the medalist with a 69. Just two strokes separated the top eight golfers in the event.

Roncalli’s Finn Anderson was runner-up with a 70, and teammate Lucas Daggett was eighth, just one stroke behind with a 71.

“It was great to see Lucas and Finn play to their potential,” Murdy said. “I’m happy for them.”

Jesse Hernandez tied for 24th with a score of 80, while Gannon May was 29th with an 81 in the packed up field.

I’m happy with how Jesse and Gannon played today,” Murdy said. “They had a couple of bad holes, but know what they need to do to clean up the rounds.”

Roncalli, which has already had four events on the young season, is right back in action today at the Northeast Conference Tournament hosted by Tiospa Zina. The Cavaliers have won the last five NEC championships.
