A variety of drivers who have had their struggles at Brown County Speedway, Aberdeen, this summer found their way into the winner’s circle on Friday night.

Trevor Nelson of Warner took some time off to help solve his issues and it certainly appeared he came up with all the right solutions. Nelson pulled away from the competition to win the Super Stock feature.

“I’m just happy that the car actually works again. We’ve pretty much sucked for the last month or so,” Nelson said. “Kind of went through the whole car, found a few things that are wrong, took a little vacation and went back and just did our homework, and made sure the car was back to where we started the year, and it seems to be working again.”

Nelson’s car hooked up all over the track and he was able to pass vehicles in whatever lane he chose.

“My car was just really good. I could kind of go wherever I wanted to,” Nelson said. “I really had no problems, high, low, middle. I didn’t have to spend too long behind them.”

Kent Arment also solved his issues at the local track by racing to the Modified feature victory. Arment flew around the high side of the oval and never gave up his early lead.

“It was good. Honestly, we’ve been fighting this car around this track,” Arment said. “This car is winning all over WISSOTA.”

And for the first time in a while, that car won at Brown County Speedway.

“We hit on something tonight,” Arment said. “It really felt great. I could drive it for once.”

The veteran driver was pleased with how the car responded on the way to the Mod victory.

“I’m definitely happy with the car for sure,” Arment said. “I think I’ve got something I can work with.”

Chris Serr of Aberdeen came up with a timely victory in the Street Stock division, his first in Aberdeen this summer.

“We’ve been struggling with the car all year,” Serr said. “It’s a brand new car we built over the winter and we finally got it. It finally works.”

Serr trailed early in the race and nearly pitted after colliding with another vehicle, but when he found out that points leader Maria Broksieck of Goodwin was being sent to the back of the pack, he decided to press on.

“The official maybe said park it after that first crash,” Serr said, “and I heard the (number) 14 was going to the rear, and I thought boy we’ve got a chance to make a lot up here, we’re doing it.”

As a result, Serr climbed right into the hunt for the points title after Broksieck was unable to finish the race.

He said the track conditions were ideal for his vehicle.

“I can hug the bottom,” Serr said. “Everybody else would skate up off the bottom. I passed every car when they skated up off the corner.”

Chad Becker returned to form after a week off in the Late Model division. The Aberdeen driver led from start to finish in the feature race. While he could run anywhere on the oval, he preferred the low side.

“The car was good all over. The bottom was a little safer,” Becker said. “The top was pretty treacherous, because a lot of guys were throwing marbles up so you really had to get after it up there. I felt if I got out in clean traffic I could outrun them on the bottom, but restarts I had to go up and play a little bit.”

Becker held off a late charge from Arment to take the checkered flag.

“I took last weekend off and did some other stuff,” Becker said, “and to come back and click one off right away is kind of nice.”

Watertown’s Todd Stark won the Midwest Modified feature race.

Racing will take a break until the final two doubleheaders of the season. The season championships will be determined Aug. 23-24, followed by the Big Buck Nationals Aug. 30-31 to conclude the season.
