SISSETON – Groton won the Northeast Conference Golf Tournament championship on Tuesday with a team total of 327. The win snapped Aberdeen Roncalli’s winning streak in the process. The Cavaliers, who finished runner-up with a 330, had won the previous five NEC titles.

“Not what we wanted today,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Groton played well today and we didn’t have our A game today.”

Milbank’s Owen Fischer was the medalist with a 74. Roncalli’s Finn Anderson was second with a 78, and Groton’s Brevin Fliehs was third with a 79.

Gannon May of Roncalli finished fourth with a round of 81.

“He played great for us today,” Murdy said. “I’m happy that his scores keep improve through the season.”

Groton’s Carter Simon rounded out the top five with an 82.

Roncalli, which has had five tournaments already this season, have one more event this week, playing in a tournament at Huron on Thursday.
