GROTON – While their opponents were different, the results were the same for the Groton soccer teams on Saturday afternoon.

The top-rated Groton girls ended up with a 1-1 draw against Sioux Falls Christian, while the Groton boys finished with a 4-4 draw against Freeman Academy.

Goals were at a premium in the girls’ contest. Sioux Falls Christian had its only goal in the opening half when Hailey Jasper scored on an assist from Makinli Rietsma.

Groton responded in the second half when Laila Roberts put a header into the back of the net on an assist from Kennedy Hansen.

Meanwhile, there were plenty of goals in the boys’ contest. Groton jumped in front and led 2-1 at the half. Freeman Academy produced three second-half goals and the two squads ended up in a 4-4 deadlock.
