Northville Merchants punch ticket to state with win over Groton

REDFIELD – The Northville Merchants racked up 17 hits, took advantage of six errors and eight walks, and clinched a State B Amateur Baseball Tournament berth with a 15-0 win over Groton Locke Electric during the Northern Plains League district tourney Friday night.

Northville scored twice in the first inning and then took control with five runs in the second frame when Carson Simes drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk, Greg Heyne had a two-run single, Ben Fischbach followed with an RBI double, and Kaleb Stahl drove in a run with a single.

The Merchants capped off their win with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Simes had a two-run double, while Devon Fischbach and Jeremiah Maxfield, who each had three hits in the contest, both had RBI singles.

Simes, Heyne, Ben Fischbach, and Stahl each had a pair of hits in the victory. Simes and Heyne drove in three runs.

Northville now advances to the State B Tournament next week in Mitchell.
