Redfield falls to Elk Point in opening round of State B

MITCHELL – A pair of Elk Point pitchers scattered 11 hits, struck out 14 batters and gave up just one run to help eliminate unbeaten Redfield Dairy Queen 7-1 in the opening round of the State B Amateur Baseball Tournament on Thursday night.

Jake Pruchniak pitched five innings and Logan Bobzin threw four, and each fanned seven batters in the contest.

Dairy Queen scored the game’s first run in the second inning when Keaton Rohlfs singled, advanced to second on an error, and scored on Brent Osborn’s single.

However, that was all the offense that Redfield could manage, stranding 15 runners on base throughout the game.

Meanwhile, Elk Point tied the game in the fourth and then took control with a four-run sixth inning, when the 45s had four hits. Elk Point tacked on two more runs in the seventh for the final margin of difference.

Preston Fejfar had four hits, and Cole Nachtigal and Hunter Ingwerson three apiece in the victory. Elk Point will now face Humboldt-Hartford in the next round at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Cooper Hainy finished with three hits, and Osborn contributed two for Redfield, which finished the season with a 19-1 record.

Dimock-Emery Raptors 7, Lake Norden Lakers 2

Dimock-Emery scored three runs in the first two innings and made it stand up in a 7-2 win over Lake Norden during the opening round of the State B tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Lake Norden scratched across two runs in the top of the eighth inning to cut a 4-0 deficit in half, before Dimock-Emery pulled away with three runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Lake Norden had four of its 10 hits in the eighth, when one run came in on a ground out before Mick Tulson drove in the other with a single. Dawson Noem led the Lakers with two hits.

Castlewood Ravens 7, Tabor Bluebirds 5

Kellen Benck drove in all seven runs for Castlewood in its 7-5 win over Tabor during the opening round of the State B Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Benck delivered a two-run double in the top of the third inning to give the Ravens a 2-1 lead at the time. He then produced a two-out grand slam home run over the rightfield fence in the fourth as Castlewood erased a 3-2 deficit to take a 6-3 lead. He later produced another run on a ground out in the eighth.

Gus Steiger had four hits to top Castlewood, which will now face Dimock-Emery in the next round on Sunday evening. Peyton Garbers, along with Benck, had a pair of hits in the victory.
