VOLGA – Sioux Valley won the team championship and also had the medalist during its own golf invitational on Monday.

Aberdeen Roncalli finished second in team points, just three strokes off the pace. Groton was just one stroke behind that.

“We played well today,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “We’re hoping to build off a few good things and improve on the bad things we can learn from.”

Milbank’s Jonathon DeBoer finished second individually with a 72, two strokes behind champion Tate Steffensen.

Groton’s Brevin Fliehs was fifth with a 76 with teammate Carter Simon seventh at 77.

Roncalli’s Finn Anderson was sixth with a 77, Lucas Daggett eighth with a 79, and Gannon May ninth with an 81.

“I’m happy with how the first event went this year,” Murdy said, “and looking to build on it.”

The Cavaliers, who had six events in the first two weeks of competition, are right back at it today competing in a tournament at Dell Rapids.
