Big first half lifts Augustana past Wolves

SIOUX FALLS – Augustana scored slightly more than three minutes into the game and the 18th-rated Vikings never looked back on the way to a 41-8 win over Northern State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football action Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings put up 34 points in the opening half and moved to 2-0 in the NSIC.

Northern got on the scoreboard in the final minute of the second quarter when Colton Hackel tossed an eight-yard pass to Ty Wiley. However, the Wolves could only muster 139 yards of total offense in the contest.

Jake Adams led NSU in tackles for the fourth straight game, finishing with 15 tackles, including 10 solo stops.

After playing three of its first four games on the road, the Wolves now have back-to-back home games. Northern, 0-4 on the year, will host Winona State at 6 p.m. Saturday at Dacotah Bank Stadium, before playing host to Bemidji State on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the annual Gypsy Days game at 2:30 p.m.
