FAULKTON - A pair of area standout runners added to their resumes on Wednesday afternoon during the Lakeside Invitational Cross Country Meet in Faulkton. Northwestern's Ella Boekelheide won the girls' race, while Miller's Pierce Baumberger topped the boys' field.
Boekelheide recorded a time of 19:07.39, and Baumberger finished in a clocking of 17:59.10.
Potter County won the girls' team crown, and North Central grabbed the boys' team championship. There were 24 teams and 97 varsity runners competing in the event.
"It was a much higher quality meet than last year," said Roncalli coach Casey Steele. "It was some pretty tough competition with new faces."
Madeline Nye of Miller was third in the girls' race, Tara Blachford of Northwestern was fourth, and Autumn Fallis of Highmore-Harrold was fifth.
North Central's Gabe Johnson was second and teammate Avery Wells was fifth in the boys' race. Milo Sumption of Frederick was third and Korbin Stark of Faulkton was fourth.
