Bulgakov lifts Wings to season-opening victory

BLAINE, Minn. – Leonid Bulgakov scored a pair of goals, including one with less than two-minutes remaining, as the Aberdeen Wings won their season-opening hockey contest 2-1 over the Chippewa Steel during the NAHL Showcase Wednesday night.

Bulgakov broke a 1-1 tie when he found the back of the net with 1:18 remaining in the third period.

Earlier in the contest, Bulgakov erased a 1-0 deficit with a goal late in the opening period. Both of his goals came on assists from Sebastian Lillsund.

Damon Cunningham stopped 21 of 22 shots in goal for Aberdeen.

The Wings are right back at it today, taking on the Northeast Generals at the Showcase at 1:45 this afternoon.

Aberdeen wraps up play in the Showcase on Saturday morning facing El Paso.
