HAYTI – Aberdeen Roncalli was unable to recover from a slow start on Saturday afternoon.

Unbeaten Hamlin set the tone in the opening set and collected a 25-9, 25-21, 25-20 sweep over the Cavaliers in a Northeast Conference volleyball match.

While Roncalli was able to gain some traction as the match wore on, the Cavaliers were never able to get over the hump.

“It was a very slow start set one,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “We knew what we were coming into with their strong hitters and servers. The girls really stepped up the game, energy, and momentum into sets two and three, and we started using our blockers and finding the open spots.”

The Chargers, who improved to 7-0 on the season, racked up 36 kills on the afternoon led by Addie Neuendorf with 15. Addie Steffensen contributed nine kills to go along with three ace serves.

McKenna O’Keefe topped Roncalli with 11 kills, and Ava Hanson added seven. Both players also had an ace serve.

The Cavaliers dropped to 3-4 on the season. Of Roncalli’s four losses this season, they have come to teams with a combined overall record of 27-5.

“Very, very demanding schedule,” Ware said, “it’s honestly been tough.”
