MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli capped off its last road trip of the regular season with a pair of 6-3 victories over Milbank and Lennox Tuesday afternoon in Milbank.

“It was nice to get a couple checks in the win column,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell.

There was plenty of competitive tennis to go around in those two matches, as four total matches went to tiebreakers, though the Cavaliers did not come out on the top side of any of those breakers.

Still, Roncalli claimed competitive victories in plenty of other spots to come away with the two team victories.

“Both Lennox and Milbank proved to be worthy opponents,” Haskell said. “Couldn’t have had a better day for tennis.”

Haskell pointed out River Haskell’s win over Milbank’s Ashlynn Lamp at flight two singles as a match of note for the Cavaliers.

“She played one of her best matches, attacking the ball and won in straight sets,” Coach Haskell noted.

Roncalli also got two singles wins from both Raley Haskell and Keira Rivett, plus doubles victories at flights two (River Haskell and Rivett) and three (Josie Mitzel and Gianna Cihak).

“It was nice to end this last regular season road trip with two wins for these three seniors (Katherine Kretchman, Raley Haskell and River Haskell),” Coach Haskell said. “We have taken a lot of trips to Milbank over the last six years. Bittersweet, to say the least.”

The Cavaliers will host Sioux Falls Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday before turning their attention to the state tournament Oct. 7-8.
