RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Central gave up a game-winning goal about a minute after scoring a game-tying goal in the waning minutes of a non-conference girls’ soccer contest Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fell 3-2 to Rapid City Stevens on Breanna Reagan’s second goal of the day.

“We scored, and they got one back right away,” said Central coach Merle Aske. “That happens once in a while.”

Central, which led 1-0 at the half thanks to Kyley Stewart’s goal in the seventh minute, gave up two unanswered goals in the second half and trailed by one score heading into the final eight minutes of action.

That’s when Gracie Lozenski found the net for a game-tying goal off an assist by Keyana Stillman.

However, the Golden Eagles gave a goal right back a minute later and couldn’t find a way to tie the game a second time.

“The girls played really well,” Aske said. “We had a couple more opportunities to score, and so did (Stevens).”

The game was Central’s second in as many days, which Aske admitted was a taxing effort early in the season.

“It was a good opportunity for the girls to stretch themselves,” he said. “I’m happy with how they played, just not happy with the result.”

Central’s Ava Beck had 10 saves in goal for the Golden Eagles, who notched 16 shots (8 on goal) to Stevens’ 21 total shots (13 on goal).

Central, 3-3 on the year, will host Huron at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

“We’re three weeks in now,” Aske said. “We’re starting to get our legs underneath us. … Now it’s just a matter of keep building and try to get the results to get us in that top six or seven (at the end of the year).”
