Groton wins team title at own invitational

GROTON – Groton claimed the top spot in the team standings, while Aberdeen Roncalli finished third in a tight race to the finish of the Groton Invitational golf tournament Thursday afternoon at Olive Grove Golf Course.

The host Tigers won by six shots over Sioux Valley. The next three spots – places two through four – were decided by just five shots. The Cossacks carded a 334, followed by Aberdeen Roncalli with a 335 and Milbank in fourth with a 339.

Tate Steffensen of Sioux Valley earned individual medalist honors with a two-stroke victory over Jonathan DeBoer. Steffensen carded a 74, while DeBoer notched a 76 on his round.

Brevin Fliehs was third with a 79 for the host Tigers.

The Cavaliers were paced by Lucas Daggett in fourth place with his round of 80. Finn Anderson followed with an 81 to tie for fifth. Gannon May’s 86 put him in a tie for ninth.
