A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Sept. 22-28: Last year on Sept. 22, 2023: Two of the state’s best nine-man football teams played one of the most exciting games in the young history of NSU’s Dacotah Bank Stadium, which opened in 2021. Warner quarterback Hunter Cramer scored on a 1-yard TD run with 12 seconds left and Alec Mikkelsen added the PAT to lift the Monarchs past Faulkton 27-20. Faulkton tied the game with 5:42 left on Layne Cotton’s 71-yard TD run. 10 years ago on Sept. 28, 2014: Onida native Tom Byrum, who turned 54 today, finished in second place at the Champions’ Tour First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, a shot off of leader John Cook at 11-under. 20 years ago on Sept. 25, 2004: Toby Korrodi threw four touchdowns as NSU defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 37-10. 30 years ago on Sept. 24, 1994: Jockey Pat Day rode Tabasco Cat in winning the $400,000 Kentucky Cup Classic. Day has relatives in South Dakota. 40 years ago on Sept. 2
