BRITTON – Aberdeen Christian’s Joseph Richards finished fifth in the boys’ race during the Britton-Hecla Invitational Cross Country Meet on Tuesday.

Waubay-Summit’s Jayven Maag topped the boys’ division, while Ava Frolek of Sargent Central-Lidgerwood-Oakes, N.D. won the girls’ race.

Christian also had three runners compete in the junior varsity races.

“All four of the runners ran well,” said Christian coach Adam Franken.

He said Richards competed hard considering the conditions of the meet.

“He pushed himself right away at the start of the race and maintained his pace and position very well, despite the heat and the hills,” Franken said. “We don’t get a lot of hill training, so it was an adjustment for the all the runners, but they attacked them very well and didn’t give up when it got hard.”
