RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli won seven of its nine first-round matches, and has five players remaining in singles action following the opening round of the Class A State Tennis Tournament on Monday.
The Cavaliers are seventh in team points with 125.
While Roncalli had won seven matches on the day, it was a loss that drew the attention of Roncalli coach Jason Haskell.
Raley Haskell fell in the quarterfinals at third flight singles, dropping the opening set 10-8 in a tiebreaker.
“Super proud of Raley’s effort in her final match of the day against Sioux Falls Christian,” said Coach Haskell. “She really went down swinging and played with a lot of heart and had a great attitude. It was one of those matches you can walk off the court and feel good about it.”
When action resumes today the Cavaliers will have five players in action, all in singles: River Haskell at flight two, Raley Haskell at flight three, Keira Rivett at flight four, Josie Mitzel at flight five, and Gianna Cihak at flight six.
Milbank also has five players remaining in singles, Jenna Korstjens at flight one, Ashlynn Lamp at flight two, Jericho Jones at flight four, Payton Lamp at flight five, and Charlotte Swanson at flight six. The Bulldogs’ top flight doubles team of Ashlynn Lamp and Korstjens will also be in action.
