IPSWICH – After splitting the opening two sets of the match, the Ipswich Tigers turned back Aberdeen Christian in four sets Tuesday night, claiming a 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 victory in Lake Region Conference volleyball action.

The two teams found every point to be well-earned throughout the contested match. To wit, the Knights got a 53-dig effort from Alexis Isakson on the back line. Isakson just set a school record for digs in a single match on Monday with 59.

“Lots of great volleyball tonight,” said Christian coach Sara Powell. “The girls worked hard for every point.”

Ipswich’s offensive efforts were led by Kaylin Onken’s 14 kills and Marley Guthmiller’s 13. Guthmiller also had four aces, and Brianna Geditz added five more, as the Tigers compiled 13 total aces at the service line.

While Isakson did her level best to keep the Tigers at bay, it was Jolie Fogarty leading the way offensively for the Knights. Fogarty finished with 11 kills, followed by Payton Skarin with 10 and Ari Johnson with eight.

Fogarty also had 16 digs, a block and two service aces. Sawyer Schwan doled out 35 assists for the Knights.

Geditz notched 40 digs on the Tiger back line to help turn back the Knights.

While the final score did not fall in Christian’s favor, Powell said there was plenty to take from the match.

“It didn’t (fall our way),” Powell said, “but proud of the girls for pushing.”

The loss concludes the regular season for the Knights (16-12), who now turn their attention to Region 1B play, which begins Nov. 4.

Ipswich (19-8) will play at Herreid-Selby Area on Monday to round out its regular season.
