ST. PAUL, Minn. – Northern State did it again.

For the third time this season, the Wolves made a play in the closing seconds to secure a football victory. The latest dramatic win took place Saturday when Northern scored a touchdown and PAT with 16 seconds left to rally past Concordia-St. Paul 35-34 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football action.

The Wolves fought back from a pair of 17-point deficits in the contest. CSP returned the opening kickoff 94 yards to start the game and soon led 17-0.

After Northern got on the board on Daniel Britt’s speed zone option for a TD, the Golden Bears scored again for a 24-7 margin.

However, the Wolves scored touchdowns on their next three possessions to surge in front 28-24, the first score coming with one second left in the opening half when Britt passed to Jacob Van Landingham for a TD. Wyatt Block then ran for a touchdown on the opening possession of the third quarter, before Northern tacked on another scored then Britt scored again on a quarterback keeper.

However, CSP responded with a touchdown of its own, but then had to settle for a field goal with just more than three minutes remaining leaving the door open for the Wolves.

Northern drove down the field before Block eventually punched in a score from the 1-yard with 16 seconds. Jeremy Caruso then added the winning PAT kick for the final margin.

Earlier this season, NSU stopped Bemidji State on a two-point attempt with six seconds left to preserve a win, and Caruso’s last-second field goal provided the winning points in win over Duluth.

Britt finished with 131 yards passing and 75 yards rushing in the contest. Block had 102 yards rushing and teammate Hank Kraft followed with 101.

Jake Adams once again led the Northern defense with 16 tackles.

The Wolves have now won five straight games after a four-game losing streak to start the season. Northern hosts Minnesota State at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the season at Dacotah Bank Stadium. The Wolves close out the year the following weekend at Wayne State.
