FAULKTON – Aberdeen Roncalli pulled away from a 10-10 tie in the fifth set to finish off a comeback victory over Faulkton Monday night.

The Cavaliers pulled out a 25-14, 16-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-11 non-conference volleyball win.

“The girls played extremely well the fourth and fifth set,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “We came out strong both sets and never looked back.”

Senior McKenna O’Keefe had a big fifth set for the Cavaliers with four kills, including the match-winner, and an ace serve.

The final set was tied six times, but Roncalli never trailed.

“Faulkton was tough,” Ware said. “They are a good team.”

Carley Cotton finished with a match-leading 24 kills to lead the Trojans.

Roncalli relied on senior hitter Ava Hanson, who also had four kills in the final set.

“Huge night for Ava Hanson with 18 kills and 3 block assists,” Ware said.

Fellow senior Maddie Huber led the Cavaliers with seven aces, 34 assists and 22 digs.

Roncalli, 11-8 on the season, hosts Milbank tonight at Roncalli Gym in a match that carries important seed point value for the upcoming playoffs. The Cavaliers are currently second in Region 1A and Milbank is third.

“Huge match,” Ware said. “We are looking forward to it.”
