Aberdeen Roncalli comes into the SoDak 16 on a six-match winning streak, including a five-set victory in its last match.

The Cavaliers are looking to get back to the state tournament for the first time since 2018.

Dell Rapids, which started out the season with 17 straight wins, has been among the top Class A teams all season, spending several weeks rated number one. The Quarriers, who finished third in last year’s state tournament, have only lost two a pair of A squads, perennial powers Sioux Falls Christian and Dakota Valley.

Dell Rapids and Roncalli faced a couple of common foes: Dell Rapids defeated both Groton and Hamlin, while the Cavaliers lost to both of those Northeast Conference opponents.

Lakota Tech (22-12) vs. Miller (27-1), 5:30 p.m. at Fort Pierre

Miller is the top-seeded team in Class A and has not lost to a Class A foe all season, its only setback coming to Class B power Warner.

The Rustlers, who finished fourth at last year’s state tournament, have qualified for five of the last seven state tourneys. Miller features a balanced attack that has been difficult to slow down.

Lakota Tech will be looking to secure its first trip to the state tournament. While the Tatanka did have a dozen setbacks, most came to squads with at least 25 victories.

St. Thomas More (27-13) vs. Hamlin (23-1), 7 p.m. at Chamberlain

Hamlin is the second-seeded team in Class A, and faced five teams still competing in either the A or B SoDak 16. The team’s only loss came at the hands of Dell Rapids, the third-seeded team in Class A. The Chargers played in back-to-back state tournaments in 2020 and 2021.

Hamlin brings a 12-match winning streak into this one.

St. Thomas More faced four Class AA schools this year, and lost to only one Class A opponent, three times to Hill City. The Cavaliers have not played in a state tournament since 2011.

Groton (19-6) vs. Mount Vernon-Plankinton (26-5), 7 p.m. at Huron

On paper this appears to be an intriguing matchup.

Mount Vernon-Plankinton is the higher seed and has won 16 of its last 17 matches, the only setback coming to top-seeded in Miller four tough sets.

Groton also closed the season with a flurry, winning 10 of its past 11 matches. All but one of the Tigers’ losses came against teams still playin in either the A or B SoDak 16.

Both teams shared a common foe, each defeating Redfield.

Winner (25-6) vs. Mobridge-Pollock (27-8), 7 p.m. at Fort Pierre

This one has the typical feel of an 8 vs. 9 seed matchup.

The squads faced each other twice this season, splitting the two matches.

Of Mobridge-Pollock’s eight losses on the year, six came against teams with at least 24 wins on the season. The Tigers feature a balanced attack with a variety of weapons.

Winner has lost just six matches, all of them to teams in either the A or B SoDak 16.

The last time Mobridge-Pollock was in the state tourney was 2016. Winner had a run of four straight state tourney appearances, culminating in 2021.
