WATERTOWN – One day after managing just one goal, the Aberdeen Cougars found the back of the net four times during a victory on Sunday.

Alyssa Roehrich had a hat trick to help power a 4-2 win over the Watertown Lakers during the league opener for both girls’ hockey squads.

“We bounced back well today,” said Cougars coach David Sandvig. “We wanted to calm down, clean up our regroup and control the puck better in the offensive zone. We did those things. We still left a lot of opportunities uncapitalized, so we’ll work to tighten that up.”

Roehrich scored the lone goal in the first period. The Lakers knotted the scored to start the second period, before Aberdeen went ahead in the closing seconds of the period on a goal by Olivia Sandvig with five seconds remaining.

“Watertown is playing tough hockey this season and their new goalie is a great asset,” Sandvig said. “I think they’ll have a good season. Was a fun first league game and a shout out to that community for their amazing new facility.”
