Four Golden Eagles earn Class 11AA all-state accolades

Aberdeen Central had four players earn all-state recognition on the South Dakota Football Coaches Association Class 11AA all-state football teams announced today.

Ryker Meister was chosen as an offensive lineman, while Felipe Gonzalez was selected as a defensive lineman. Joey Dallman and Cordel Rychlik were honorable mention selections.

Here is a look at each of the Central players, followed by the complete all-state teams for Class 11AA, Class 11AAA, and Class 11A.

Ryker Meister, Aberdeen Central (Offensive Line): This senior captain moved people out on the line of scrimmage for the Golden Eagles. He had 13 pancake blocks this year, running his career total to 27 panckes. “He was the leader of the offensive line,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “He is smart and aggressive.”

Felipe Gonzalez, Aberdeen Central (Defensive Line): Just a junior, opponents quickly found out where Gonzalez was on the line of scrimmage. He had 44 tackles, 2 sacks, and blocked four PAT kicks this season. “He was a great leader and anchor for our defensive line and defense,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “He made great improvements since last season, and I only see him improving for next year. He loves the weight room.” Gonzalez can bench 375 pounds and deadlift 680 pounds.

Joey Dallman, Aberdeen Central (Honorable Mention): Dallman did a little bit of everything for the Golden Eagles. He rushed for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also had 112 yards receiving. “Stats don’t show how important Joey is to our team,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “He’s a great blocker. He also takes care of our kicking duties (KO, PAT/FG).”

Aberdeen Central’s Cordel Rychlik, center, runs for the end zone as his teammate Owen Ward, right, begins celebrating as Rychlik went onto score a touchdown on a pick-six while Brookings’ Will Conrad, left, closes in at left during a game at Brownell Activities Complex. Cordel Rychlik, Aberdeen Central (Honorable Mention): Rychlik made an impact for the Golden Eagles from the defensive secondary. He had 56 tackles, 1 sack, and intercepted 3 passes, one of which he returned for a touchdown. “He was the captain and quarterback of our defense,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “We changed our defense this year and he picked it up and was like a coach on the field. He did a great job of communicating with the rest of the secondary and linebackers on the calls and adjustments.”
