Geditz, Spicer earn football coaching awards

The South Dakota High School Football Coaches Association has announced its Coaches of the Year.

Area coaches honored include Faulkton’s Shayne Geditz who is the Class 9B Coach of the Year, and Chad Spicer who is the Class 9B Assistant Coach of the Year.

Other Coach of the Year recipients include Class 11AAA, Matt Christensen of Brandon Valley; Class 11AA, Tom Tieszen of Spearfish; Class 11A, Jared Smith of Sioux Falls Christian; Class 11B, Brent Olson of Mount Vernon-Plankinton; Class 9AA, Ethan Pearson of Elkton-Lake Benton; and Class 9A, Pat Ruml of Howard.

Other Assistant Coach of the Year recipients are Class 11AAA, Dylan Briest of Brandon Valley; Class 11AA, Kelly O’Connor of Watertown; Class 11A, Craig Jorgensen of Dell Rapids; Class 11B, Adam Timmins of Elk Point-Jefferson; Class 9AA, Kaleb Haas of Elkton-Lake Benton; and Class 9A, Mitchell Johnson of Alcester-Hudson.

The State Assistant Coach of the Year is Timmins, and the Middle School Coach of the Year is Matthew Cadwell of Sioux Valley. The State Friend of Football is Bill Weber of Watertown, the Keeper of the Game is Kurtiss Riggs of Sioux Falls, and the Hometown Hero is Brian Hansen, South Dakota FCA of Sioux Falls.

Among those who were honored going into the South Dakota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame were Aaron Beaver, Kerwin Hoellein, and Wayne Sullivan.
