A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Nov. 17-23:
Last year on Nov. 19, 2023: Tucker Kraft turned in one of the biggest plays of the day to help his Green Bay Packers defeat the visiting Los Angeles Chargers 23-20. The former Timber Lake and SDSU standout tight end caught a Jordan Love pass on what looked like a short gain and turned it into what looked like a 39-yard, first NFL touchdown complete with a tradition celebration Lambeau Leap on Kraft’s part. After Kraft caught the pass, he outran a defender, hurdled over another one and tip-toed down the sidelines. However, a review determined Kraft stepped out of bounds at the 12-yard line after his 27-yard gain. Nevertheless, his big play set up the Packers’ game-winning touchdown (which was scored by Kraft’s former rival and now teammate, Christian Watson of NDSU).
10 years ago on Nov. 22, 2014: Coach Kari Jung and her Warner volleyball team has gone 101-2 over the past three seasons, winning the last three State B titles.
20 years ago on Nov. 20, 2004: Becky Gomer had 26 kills and 29 digs to pace Milbank past Hamlin 3-2 for the State A volleyball title. Diedra Artz, Jodi Fischbach and Teri Smith led Northwestern past Mount Vernon 3-1 to win the State B title.

30 years ago on Nov. 17, 1994: Northern State fixture Clark Swisher was the target of a friendly roast that raised money for charity. Swisher started his career with the Wolves in 1946 when he was named head coach of the school’s football, basketball and track teams.
40 years ago on Nov. 17, 1984: The SDSU cross country teams of coach Scott Underwood finished second (women) and fourth (men) at the NCAA DII national championships in Mississippi. SDSU senior Kristen Asp finished eighth to earn her fourth All-American award. On the men’s side, Rod DeHaven (fifth) and Todd Stevens (14 th ) were All-Americans for the Jacks. SDSU won the NCC and regional championships this season.
50 years ago on Nov. 23, 1974: Dean Marske had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Frederick past New Effington 40-36. Dale Knutson scored 18 for New Effington.
