Sully Buttes, Wolsey-Wessington grab semifinal wins

ONIDA – Sully Buttes and Wolsey-Wessington earned the right to play for state football championships by virtue of semifinal victories on Friday night.

Sully Buttes defeated Canistota 34-28 in Class 9B, while Wolsey-Wessington edged Wall 30-28 in Class 9A.

Wesley Wittler passed for 211 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and rushed for 106 yards and two more TDs to power Sully Buttes. Gavin Barber had three receptions for 104 yards and a score.

Wolsey-Wessington was led by Caleb Richmond who passed for 219 yards and a score, and ran for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Moshe Richmond had 91 yards receiving, and 44 yards rushing with a touchdown.

Sully Buttes meets Faulkton for the 9B state championship at 11 a.m. Thursday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, and Wolsey-Wessington faces undefeated Howard for the 9A state title at 10 a.m. Friday.
