SPEARFISH – Aberdeen Central got off to a rough start in each half and eventually fell to Spearfish in non-conference boys’ basketball Friday night.

The Golden Eagles managed just five points in the opening quarter and four in the third period on the way to a 50-42 setback.

“We struggled to score,” said Central coach Brent Norberg. “I thought our kids played really hard on defense, even though we weren’t scoring.”

The Golden Eagles lost Jacob Weishaar to an ankle injury in the first half. While Weishaar had seven rebounds in the game, he was held scoreless before exiting in the contest.

“Losing Jacob Weishaar in the second quarter really hurt,” Noberg said, “but the kids kept playing and got it back to a one-possession game.”

The Spartans were able to turn back Central’s comeback and pick up their second win on the season.

Brendan Phillips led a balanced attack for the Golden Eagles with 13 points. Colby Dauwen finished with seven and Turner Bergan contributed six.

Central, 0-3 on the year, takes on Sturgis this afternoon.

“Tough challenge,” Noberg said, “but we will show up and play as hard as we can.”
