RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Central warmed up for the Rapid City Invitational by picking up a pair of boys’ wrestling victories on Thursday night. The Golden Eagles defeated Sioux Falls Jefferson 45-19 and Sioux Falls Lincoln 46-27.

The scores of the duals were similar, and the opponents were comparable, according to Central coach Donnie Bowden.

“They both have really quality kids sprinkled in there,” Bowden said.

The Golden Eagles were focused and ready to go on the way to improving to 6-0 on the dual season.

“I think as a whole, the team did a good,” Bowden said. “They stepped up to the challenge.”

While the wrestlers will competing in a huge two-day tournament this weekend, Bowden said they were concentrating on the task at hand during the duals.

“It’s always the next thing for us, so whatever we’re doing, that’s where we’re at, and that’s where our feet are at, we’re focused on that,” Bowden said. “We knew that the big tournament was coming and we want to get there, but we don’t want to overlook anyone on our way. Every match matters, because every match counts for seeds at the state tournament now.”

Central will compete in the Rapid City Invitational which will feature more than 70 teams. Bowden and the Golden Eagles are looking forward to the challenge.

“This is really going to be a big measuring stick here early in the year. A lot of the big players in the A’s are here that we’re going to see on the state level,” Bowden said. “It’s just get to the next round. Do what you can in that match and then get to next round, and hopefully team points pile up.”
