RAPID CITY – Seven Aberdeen Central girls wrestlers remain in contention for podium finishes after the opening day of the Rapid City Invitational tournament, which began Friday.

Of those seven, Madison Little (100 pounds) and Lin Paw Jone (145 pounds) advanced to the semifinals of their respective weight brackets. Little earned a technical fall and a 4-3 decision in her only two contested matches of the day, but the wins propelled the eighth-grader into the semifinals.

Jone, a freshman, breezed her way through the 145-pound bracket, earning a pair of falls and a major decision. She also will compete in the semis when action resumes this morning.

Meanwhile, Ula Martin (114), Jasmine Maas (132), Allison Neitzel (138) and Lilly Nelson (165) each advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective classes before falling into the consolation side of the bracket with quarterfinal setbacks.

Jocelynn Rose (120) suffered an early loss, but bounced back with four straight consolation bracket victories and will also continue her quest for a podium spot today.

“We had a lot of good wrestling today,” said Central coach Jake Flakus. “Seven girls will wrestle (today) with two of them in the semis. Great opportunity to finish strong in a tough tournament.”
