MILBANK – Aberdeen Central scored a season-high in points on the way to winning the team championship at the Milbank Invitational gymnastics meet on Saturday. The Golden Eagles finished with 134.350 points. Deuel finished second.
“We are super proud of these girls and how much they put into it …. literally blood, sweat, and tears to get to where we want to be,” said Central coach Mickey Everson. “The team energy is right where we need it to be.”
The Golden Eagles had a strong effort on bars with Maddy Walberg and Addison Everson finishing in a three-way tie for first.
“We worked hard at practice, cleaning things up and even added a few skills,” Coach Everson said, “and that got our momentum rolling for a positive environment for the rest of the meet.”
Central also had a strong showing on floor, where four gymnasts placed led by event-winner Regan Lust.
“On floor our energy was amazing. The girls really show off their personality and get out there and have fun,” Coach Everson said. “Each one showed off and it paid off.”
Walberg won the all-around with Addison Everson runner-up.
“We had a lot of girls place and pick up some top medals,” Coach Everson said. “They were ecstatic.”
Central now takes a break until hosting Pierre on Jan. 9.
