MANDAN, N.D. – The Aberdeen Cougars had their six-game winning streak halted in a 6-0 loss to the Mandan Braves in girls’ hockey action Friday night.
The Cougars started the year with a non-league setback before winning a half dozen league games in a row, before Friday night’s non-league contest.
The hosts, who scored three times in the opening period, received goals from five different players in the contest.
Tesse Rebenitsch had a pair of goals for the Braves, who outshot the Cougars 28-15 in the victory.
Mandan improved to 5-2 on the season.
Chloe Vikander stopped 28 shots in goal for Aberdeen.
“Mandan varsity is always a solid group of skaters and put sticks on sticks,” said Cougars coach David Sandvig. “They got a few goofy ones. Chloe played great.”
Aberdeen, which slipped to 6-2 on the year, is right back at it today, when it plays at Dickinson.
“Coming off the holiday we were a bit flat footed and shy to shoot,” Sandvig said. “We’re looking forward to bouncing back (Saturday).”
