Jeremey Backous submitted his resignation as head coach of the Aberdeen Cougars boys’ hockey team earlier this week. Assistant coach Chris Medill has taken over the reigns of the program.

“Jeremey resigned from his position. Chris Medill will step up and he will be the head coach for the varsity team,” said Duke Witte, president of the Aberdeen Hockey Association. “Landon Danielson will now step up and be the head coach of the JV team. Cody Martian and Sam Casper will continue to serve as assistant coaches.”

Backous was in his sixth season as Cougars head coach. Aberdeen is currently 6-6 in league play and in fifth place in league standings.

Medill had been serving as head coach of the JV team, and has been a part of the Cougars program for a number of years.

“He’s got lots and lots of years of experience,” Witte said.

The Cougars will host Watertown at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Odde Ice Center.
