FARGO, N.D. – Aberdeen Central has seven boys’ wrestlers still competing, including three in the semifinals, following the opening day of the Rumble on the Red Tournament in Fargo.
Jackson Dargatz, Owen Ward, and Cole Dunlavy each went undefeated on Thursday in a field loaded with elite competition from a four-state area.
“There wasn’t an easy round,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “As soon as we started you were right into the thick of things.”
The Golden Eagles are in fourth place in the team points and have the potential to add to their total when action resumes this morning.
Bowden said that the other four wrestlers will finish in the top 12, but have not secured a podium finish yet.
“There’s a lot of points to get, yet. I wish we had a few more guys that got through,” Bowden said. “The four on the backside, they still have to win (Friday) morning to actually get into the medal round.”
Bowden said there is still work to be done as Central attempts to gain as many points as possible.
“We’re trying to better our situations in a lot of places,” Bowden said. “We’re hoping that everyone we got in, we’ll get them up on the podium as high as possible.”
