TEA – Aberdeen Central suffered through a pair of rough quarters in a setback to Tea Area on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles managed just four points in the second quarter and five in the fourth period in a 65-40 Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ basketball loss.
“We were not very good today,” said Central coach Brent Norberg. “We struggled keeping them out of the paint. We were a step slow all game. We never got it together.”
The hosts used a 17-4 second-quarter surge to break the game open.
Grifin Wiebenga had 21 points to lead three Titans in double figures on the day. Marshall Smythe added 17, and Gavin Shawd added 12.
Brendan Phillips paced the Golden Eagles with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Michael Dutenhoffer contributed 11 points.
Central, 2-6 on the season, heads to Sioux Falls on Tuesday to take on O’Gorman, 7-2 on the year.
“We will need to play a lot better. I think we will,” Norberg said. “We are going to flush this one and get back to work Monday.”
