SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Central girls’ basketball squad made it four straight victories and two straight road wins with a 47-37 triumph over Sioux Falls Lincoln Friday night.

Central, which is receiving votes in the latest media poll, needed a strong second-half showing, particularly in the fourth and final stanza, to complete the victory.

“Proud of our girls,” said Central coach Paiton Burckhard. “We are going to continue to play in games like these. Everyone is going to give us their best, so our mindset needs to adjust to that and be ready to play every single time out the gate.”

Central played the host Patriots even-up through the first and second quarters, heading into the break tied at 18. The Golden Eagles held the slight edge in the third quarter, then converted on enough free throws in the fourth to stretch their lead to double digits.

“We played a full game tonight, and it was fun to see the girls fight and come out with a W,” Burckhard said.

Lauryn Burckhard led the way offensively for the Golden Eagles, finishing with 14 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Taryn Hermansen added 11 points, while Emma Dohrer chimed in with seven points, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Emerson Robertson and Kierra Lubovich had 11 points apiece for the host squad. All 11 of Robertson’s points came in the third quarter, while Lubovich was the lone Patriot to score in the fourth quarter.

Central will return home for three straight games beginning Tuesday when the Golden Eagles host Watertown.
