HARRISBURG – Aberdeen Central rolled through a fistful of opponents Saturday en route to a team title at the Harrisburg Duals Tournament.
The Golden Eagles’ closest dual came in the opening round when they defeated the host Tigers 33-28. Central won the final six matches of that contest, including a sudden-victory win by Jackson Dargatz (106 pounds) in the final match to secure the win.
“We started out with our toughest dual right off the bat,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “It was the first one where we had some adversity where we had to fight back.”
Central dropped the first five matches of that dual and was down 19-0 before the Golden Eagles were able to crack the scoreboard.

“We were short-handed today,” Bowden noted. “We had some guys out due to illness and injury. … It was an opportunity for the guys who were in – the mainstays – to step up and go find some bonus points.”
After Ridley Waldo got the Golden Eagles on the board at 144 pounds, Mason Schrempp followed with a fall at 157. Grayden Timm (175) then started the closing parade, followed by Cole Dunlavy (190), Ryker Meister (215), Joran Foss (285) and Dargatz.
The Golden Eagles were never seriously threatened in any of their other four matches.
Being shorthanded gave the Golden Eagles a unique opportunity to get a few younger wrestlers some varsity experience, Bowden said.
“It’s kind of a win-win situation,” he said.
Central, undefeated in duals this season, will travel to another dual tournament next Saturday, heading to Pierre for the East-West Duals.
“It’s going to be a battle down there,” Bowden said. “There’s going to be some good teams there, some good competition.”
