After months of regular season games, the time has finally come where it’s win or go home for Class A girls’ basketball teams as they head into region play.

The ultimate goal is to advance to the state tournament next month in Spearfish. The road on that journey starts this week as squads try to punch their tickets to next week’s SoDak 16 games.

Here is a capsule look at each Class A region involving area teams:

Region 1A

Tuesday and Thursday at Groton, highest seeds

Things are about to get very interesting in this region. If favorites win opening-round games, the semifinals should be something to keep an eye on.

Any of the top four teams have a legitimate chance to advance to the SoDak 16.

Roncalli and Groton both own home-court advantage, but that does not guarantee anything. Roncalli lost at home to potential semifinal foe Milbank earlier this season, and Sisseton (which is coming off back-to-back third-place state finishes) will be a handful for Groton should that be the pairing.

Expect some major battles on Thursday.

Teams W L

Aberdeen Roncalli 15-5

Groton 14-6

Sisseton 13-7

Milbank 12-8

Webster 10-10

Britton-Hecla 5-15

Redfield 3-17

Tuesday’s Games: Britton-Hecla vs. Sisseton at Groton; Redfield at Groton; Webster at Milbank; Aberdeen Roncalli, bye.

Thursday’s Games: Semifinals at highest remaining seeds.

Region 2A

Tuesday and Thursday at highest seeds

Hamlin has been rated among the top five teams in the state all season and will be favored to get to the SoDak 16. However, it should be noted the Chargers struggled against potential semifinal foe Clark-Willow Lake recently before pulling out a win in the closing minutes.

Sioux Valley and Great Plains Lutheran have both pieced together solid seasons, however GPL lost a key starter for the season in the closing weeks. Sioux Valley has lost four games to teams with a combined 13 losses and will own homecourt advantage in a potential semifinal matchup with the Panthers.

Teams W L

Hamlin 17-3

Sioux Valley 16-4

Great Plains Lutheran 14-5

Clark-Willow Lake 11-8

Florence-Henry 8-12

Elkton-Lake Benton 7-13

Deuel 4-16

Tuesday’s Games: Deuel at Sioux Valley; Elkton-Lake Benton at Great Plains Lutheran; Florence-Henry at Clark-Willow Lake; Hamlin, bye.

Thursday’s Games: Semifinals at highest remaining seeds.

Region 6A

Tuesday and Thursday at highest seeds

Everything points to Mobridge-Pollock and Miller advancing out of this region.

The top-two seeds have the best records within the region, played solid schedules, and will be playing at home, a lot for underdogs to overcome.

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte is the only other team in the region that has a .500 record and will try to pull off a major upset.

Teams W L

Mobridge-Pollock 16-3

Miller 16-4

Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 10-10

Crow Creek 7-13

Platte-Geddes 5-15
