WATFORD CITY, N.D. – The Aberdeen Cougars girls’ hockey team finished runner-up Sunday at a three-day tournament in Watford City.

The Cougars defeated Hazen-Beulah 4-3 in the semifinals Sunday morning, before falling to the host Oilers squad 6-4 in the championship game.

Aberdeen went 3-2 in the tourney, with both setbacks coming against Watford City.

“It was a tough, physical game this morning against Hazen to get to the ‘ship,” said Cougars coach David Sandvig. “We outshot and outplayed Watford City again without outscoring them.”

Aberdeen will try to gain a measure of revenge against Oahe this coming weekend with games Saturday and Sunday in Pierre. The Cougars fell to Oahe in overtime at the Odde Ice Center late last month.
