SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Aberdeen Cougars shook off a little rust and then rolled to a boys’ hockey win Saturday.

The Cougars skated to an 8-0 league victory over Sioux Center.

“The first period was a little rough,” said Aberdeen coach Chris Medill. “We haven’t played a game in two weeks and it really showed. Not making passes, not moving our feet, miss handling pucks.”

However, the Cougars soon found their traction and produced five goals in the second period.

Wheeler Malsam found the back of the net twice for Aberdeen, which received goals from seven different players in the contest.

Medill said style points don’t count, just the final score.

“Fortunately no one asks how you won,” he said, “just how many you’ve won.”

The Cougars are now 8-6 in league play.

The same two teams are back on the ice today.
